Eligibility Criteria:
You may be eligible to return as a Police Constable if:
- There is a vacant post at your preferred posting location (recruitment will check this for you).
- You left BTP in the same rank you wish to return to within 12 months, or within 5 years if you have continuous police service
You must not have:
- Been on any formal UPP stage when leaving BTP
- Been on Stage 2 for sickness upon leaving
- Any live investigations, complaints, performance issues, or misconduct warnings (including from other forces)
- Any active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs, or bankruptcy
- Been dismissed from another force
- Retired from BTP
Further internal reference checks will be completed by divisional HR, and final approval will be required from your Divisional Commander.
Recruitment Process
- Application
Provide a short summary outlining why you want to return to BTP. - Eligibility Checks
Recruitment will carry out internal reference checks. - Conditional Offer
If you meet our criteria to return, you’ll receive your conditional offer and begin standard recruitment checks. - Start Date & Onboarding
We’ll agree your start date and issue your contract and offer letter.
Training Requirements
- Returning within 12 months of leaving BTP:
You can re-join your division directly, where any mandatory training and attestation will take place. - Returning after 12 months and joining from another force:
You’ll attend a 4‑week T&R induction course in London before posting to division.
