The Opportunity:  Digital Forensics Services Assistant Technical Manager 

Salary: £38,264.81 per annum plus £4,427.65 London allowance, plus £3,957.00 Market supplement with yearly increments based on performance.

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Ebury bridge, London

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available

Hours: This is full-time role (37 hours per week) 

 

The Digital Forensics Services have an excellent opportunity for a Digital Forensics Services Assistant Technical Manager. In this role, you’ll support the Digital Forensic Services Technical Manager in delivering a high-quality, efficient digital forensic service. This includes helping to manage and develop personnel, processes, and methods, while ensuring continued compliance with ISO17020 and ISO17025 accreditation standards.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing the technical quality of digital forensic laboratory activities, including the examination of CCTV, mobile devices, digital media, and other frontline tools. Your expertise will support investigations from case acceptance through to conclusion, ensuring professional, accessible, and cost-effective forensic services. You’ll also lead competence testing for all digital forensic personnel within BTP to maintain high standards and regulatory compliance. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the Technical Manager in maintaining ISO17020 and ISO17025 accreditation across digital forensic teams and frontline hubs.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain digital forensic methods, tools, and procedures to ensure they are fit for purpose.
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System, including SOPs, QPs, and audit processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement through audit feedback, root cause analysis, and performance monitoring.
  • Assist with competence testing and professional development of digital forensic personnel across BTP.

Essential Skills:   

Qualifications and Training: 

  • Educated to degree level within Forensic Computing/Computer Science and/or relevant experience in digital forensics. 
  • Successful completion of relevant digital forensics courses: Digital Media: XWays and/or Axiom; Mobile Devices: MSAB XRY, Cellebrite and/or Oxygen.

Experience: 

  • Experience of working within an ISO accredited environment or one that is working towards accreditation.
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in the use of digital forensics software (either digital media or mobile devices).

Skills: 

  • Ability to continually and effectively absorb technical information, evaluate, and report on results to management.
  • Able to prioritise according to operational requirements.

Knowledge: 

  • A good understanding of computer and / or mobile device hardware and software.
  • Sound working knowledge and understanding of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 / 17020, ILAC G19 Modules in a Forensic Science Process and Forensic Science Regulators Code of Practice.

Additional Information: 

The role includes the viewing of extracted digital evidence which may contain child sexual abuse material 

(images and videos) and / or instances of extreme violence or other material of a disturbing or distressing nature.
