Salary & Grade: Police Constable salary + £5,588.18 Police Officer London Allowance and £3,150 London Weighting if applicable.

Contract Type: Temporary - 24 months secondment opportunity

Location: London - Spring House 

Hours: This is a full time role (40 hours per week)

We are seeking dedicated and motivated Police Constables to join our Learning and Development team as a Recruit Trainer on a 24-month secondment basis. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in BTP by shaping the knowledge, skills and confidence of our future officers.

As a Recruit Trainer, you will play a vital role in transforming recruits into capable, professional and values-driven police officers. Through innovative and engaging learning experiences, you will bring policing to life, equipping new starters with the tools they need to succeed. You will support, design and deliver complex, extensive learning and development programmes, enabling the organisation to achieve its goals and individuals to fulfil their potential.


What you'll be doing:

  • Delivering dynamic learning programmes across classroom, digital and practical environments, ensuring content is modern, engaging, relevant and impactful.
  • Research, design, create and continuously improve training materials that bring learning to life and reflect operational realities.
  • Use a variety of teaching and mentoring techniques to motivate, challenge and support recruits, helping them achieve their full potential.
  • Build an inclusive, supportive and high-performing learning environment, where every learner feels supported, valued and able to contribute.
  • Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support continuous development.
  • Adapt training approaches to meet individual needs, ensuring all recruits are set up to succeed.

What You’ll Bring to the team:

  • A genuine passion for teaching, mentoring and developing others, with a drive to make a difference.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, inspire and build trust with a diverse range of learners and stakeholders.
  • An understanding of adult learning principles, with the ability to apply these to create effective and innovative training.
  • The ability to design and adapt learning content, including for digital and blended delivery.
  • Plan and deliver engaging group learning sessions that inspire and challenge learners, using effective facilitation, ongoing assessment and mentoring to support progress and drive the achievement of learning outcomes
  • A commitment to being a positive role model, demonstrating the highest standards and upholding BTP values and the Code of Ethics at all times.
  • Experience in supporting individuals’ development, including recognising additional needs, promoting wellbeing and ensuring safeguarding.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be considered for this role, applicants must meet the initial eligibility requirements below. By submitting an application, you are self-certifying that you meet this criteria.


Essential:

  • Substantive in the rank of Constable (confirmed in rank). 
  • Not subject to stage 2 or above sickness proceedings. 
  • Not subject to formal action proceedings for complaints, discipline or poor performance. 
  • A minimum indicator of 3 or indicator U / no rating must have been achieved on the last reporting year PDR. 
  • All mandatory training courses have been attended and are up to date. 
  • Your line manager recommendation form needs to be signed by both your first and second line manager. The completion of this form forms part of the eligibility process. 
  • If you are in your probation or tenure period, you can apply with approval from your Superintendent. This approval needs to be provided on your line manager recommendation form. 
  • Meet the essential criteria as detailed in the attached job description.
  • Teaching Qualifications (Certificate in Education & Training (CET) / Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training) / Training Essential Programme (TEP Modules 1-3).
  • Experience in the delivery of training
  • Experience of working in an operational or L&D role within a police environment

Desirable:

  • A1 Assessor qualification (or equivalent qualification)
