The Opportunity

Are you a substantive Police Constable, or have you left policing within the last five years, and are now looking for a new challenge?

We are seeking motivated and dedicated Police Constables to join our Learning and Development Team as Recruit Trainers. This is a unique opportunity to use your experience to develop others and influence the future of policing.

As a Recruit Trainer, you will play a key role in shaping the knowledge, skills and confidence of new officers, ensuring they are equipped to operate as capable, professional and values driven police officers.

As a Recruit Trainer, you will:

  • Deliver high quality training across classroom, digital and practical environments
  • Design, develop and continuously improve learning materials based on operational policing
  • Inspire and support recruits through engaging learning experiences
  • Create an inclusive environment where all learners feel valued and supported
  • Assess learning progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Adapt training to meet individual needs and different learning styles
  • Support recruits with wellbeing, safeguarding and additional needs
  • Contribute to wider Learning and Development initiatives

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • Substantive in the rank of Police Constable
  • A genuine passion for developing and supporting others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage, influence and inspire a diverse range of learners
  • Understanding of learning and development principles
  • Up to date mandatory training record

Desirable

  • A1 Assessor qualification or equivalent
  • Training Essential Programme Modules
  • Teaching qualification such as Certificate in Education and Training or Level 5 Diploma
  • Experience within a learning, coaching or mentoring environment

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a current or former Police Officer from a Home Office police force, Police Scotland or PSNI
  • Be substantive in rank and have completed probation (transferees)
  • Apply within five years of leaving policing and have been substantive in rank (re‑joiners)
  • Have lived in the UK for the past three consecutive years
  • Have no live misconduct warnings or performance issues
  • Not be under investigation by another force
  • Have no active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs or bankruptcy
  • Not have been dismissed from a police force
