Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available. Regular travel to London will be required, particularly for candidates based outside London.

British Transport Police has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a unique chance to play a key role in shaping the future of finance within BTP as we deliver a significant finance transformation programme, including the implementation of a new finance system.
As our technical accounting specialist, you will provide expert advice and guidance across a range of high-profile projects, ensuring complex transactions and transformation activities are accounted for accurately and in line with relevant accounting standards. You will lead on statutory financial reporting, support a strong financial control environment, and work closely with auditors and senior stakeholders to ensure sound financial governance across the organisation.
This role offers the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, improve financial processes through innovation and technology, and make a lasting impact within a nationally important organisation.
What you'll be doing
- Providing expert technical accounting advice across Finance and the wider organisation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and best practice.
- Preparing annual statutory financial statements, quarterly reporting and technical accounting papers.
- Leading on capital and revenue accounting matters, supporting business projects and transformation initiatives.
- Working with auditors and key stakeholders to strengthen financial controls, implement recommendations, and support the successful delivery of a new finance system.
What you'll bring to the team
- A recognised CCAB accounting qualification (ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAI, ICAS or equivalent) supported by ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Significant experience in financial accounting, financial reporting or audit, including preparation and review of statutory accounts.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including experience applying IFRS and ideally FReM requirements within a complex organisation.
- Experience providing clear and practical accounting advice, alongside excellent stakeholder management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience delivering process improvements through automation, digital tools and AI-enabled solutions.
- Proven ability to work effectively with internal and external auditors and implement audit recommendations.
