Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.

The Opportunity:

As a Property Officer with BTP, you will play an important role in supporting the secure, accurate and efficient management of property across the London area. You will be responsible for receiving, recording, storing, tracking and arranging the return or disposal of a wide range of property, including evidence, lost and found property, special property and cash. This role is key to maintaining continuity of evidence, supporting officers and case progression, and ensuring property is managed safely, lawfully and professionally.

What you'll be doing:

  • Receive, record and securely store property taken as evidence, recovered stolen property, lost and found property, cash and special property, ensuring accurate records are maintained and items can be efficiently retrieved when required.
  • Manage property handling processes, including tracking property, supporting returns and disposals, monitoring storage timescales, and liaising with officers and relevant teams to ensure property matters are progressed promptly.
  • Support the continuity of evidence by maintaining accurate property records, managing interview tape storage and retention, and arranging the release of property and associated records for officers attending court.
  • Provide advice and guidance to officers and colleagues on property storage, disposal and related processes, while maintaining appropriate access control and high standards of housekeeping within the property store.

What you'll bring to the team:

  • An A-Level qualification or equivalent vocational training or qualification, alongside a full clean driving licence.
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public, with the confidence and professionalism to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work accurately with a clear eye for detail.
  • Good keyboard skills and confidence using Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A flexible, self-motivated approach, with the ability to work unsupervised and manage sensitive property matters responsibly.
  • Knowledge of BTP, crime reporting, lost property procedures, prosecution processes, court procedures and continuity of evidence registers.

 What we offer:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
  • Family-friendly policies, including up to 26 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.
  • Bespoke benefits platform and Blue Light Card access.
  • Salary sacrifice options for cycles, home technology, gym membership, and electric vehicles.
  • Interest-free annual rail season ticket loan after 6 months.
  • Access to the Transport Benevolent Fund for health, welfare, and financial support.
  • Development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships.
  • Excellent Pension scheme:  We offer the BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme, administered by Royal London. This group personal pension plan is available to all police staff and is a defined contribution scheme. It provides the flexibility to vary your pension contributions from 4.4% to 12% of your salary.
