Job Introduction

Salary: £31,736.51 per annum with yearly increments based on performance. An additional London Allowance of £4,613.61 payable to London based candidates only.

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Birmingham or London - majority of time working independently/ working from home with occasional need to attend meetings in Birmingham.

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available

The Opportunity:

British Transport Police have an opportunity for a People Services Administrator to join the People and Culture department. As a People Services Administrator with BTP, you will provide you’ll provide professional, customer‑focused and first‑line support across the full employee lifecycle — from onboarding to exit. You’ll play a key part in ensuring a seamless and positive experience for candidates, employees, and managers by coordinating onboarding activity, processing HR transactions, and delivering accurate and timely guidance in line with BTP policies and statutory requirements. You’ll also support continuous improvement across our People Services function, contributing to efficient processes and high‑quality service delivery.

 

What you'll be doing: 

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Managing post‑offer onboarding processes including vetting, medical checks, references, documentation, uniform coordination, and system access, while maintaining accurate records across HR systems.
  • Employee Lifecycle Administration: Processing promotions, pay changes, allowances, sickness, family leave, resignations and retirements; preparing pay instructions and issuing formal employment‑related correspondence. 
  • Customer Service & First‑Line Support: Acting as the first point of contact for People & Resourcing queries via phone, email and service desk; troubleshooting issues, providing policy guidance, and escalating complex matters where required. 
  • Data Management & Reporting: Maintaining accurate data in line with Data Protection and FOI requirements; producing MI reports, supporting audits, and contributing to process improvements and HR projects. 
  • Rewards & Pension Support: Administering reward and benefits schemes and providing first‑line support for low‑level pension queries, including new‑starter pension paperwork.

 

What you'll bring to the team:  

  • A‑level qualification or equivalent experience. 
  • Previous administrative and coordination experience with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience delivering high‑quality customer service, ideally within HR or recruitment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the tact and discretion needed when handling sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in HR and payroll systems, Microsoft Office applications and applicant tracking systems.
  • Ability to compile and analyse data, generating reports for stakeholders; numeracy skills to complete manual pay calculations. 
  • Understanding of HR processes, recruitment administration and core employment law principles.
