Salary: £35,754.47 plus a £4613.61 London Allowance per annum

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract - 12 Months

Location: Ivason House - London Bridge, 8A London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9SG

Type of Working Arrangement: We offer a blended working approach, combining home and office working, with the team attending Ivason House every Wednesday.

Hours: This is a full-time role (37 hours per week)

The Opportunity:

British Transport Police have the opportunity for four Vetting Officers to join the Professional Standards Department on a Fixed Term Contract. As a Vetting Officer with BTP, you will provide a thorough and risk-focused vetting service, assessing the suitability of police officers, staff, contractors and partners in line with Force Vetting Policy, ensuring all decisions support the safety, security and integrity of the organisation. This role is offered as an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to be extended subject to review.


What you'll be doing:

  • Conducting vetting checks in line with Force policy and national standards
  • Researching and analysing information from policing systems and other sources
  • Assessing risk and making evidence-based decisions on vetting clearance
  • Producing clear, concise reports to support outcomes and recommendations
  • Managing a workload of vetting cases, including enquiries, interviews and renewals

 What you'll bring to the team:  

  • Experience working within a regulatory, compliance or policy-driven environment
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to assess risk and identify potential concerns
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
  • High levels of integrity, discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with confidence managing challenging or sensitive conversations

Notice Period: This role is subject to a 1 month notice period.
