Location: London/ 1 position can be York based. London Allowance £4613.61 available to London based candidates only. Please make clear in your application which base you are applying for. 

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available. Although there is a blended approach to this role, there is a requirement to be in the office for all misconduct hearings and meetings.

The Opportunity: Panels Officer 

British Transport Police have opportunities for 2 Panel Officers to join the Professional Standards Department to be based at Ivason House in London. As a Panels Officer with BTP, you will be accountable and responsible for the effective day to day preparation of the complex bundles for formal internal and external hearings.   The PSD Panels Advisor will also provide a critical analytical role ensuring equality, fairness and impartiality to all parties involved.  

The role ensures that all misconduct procedures, processes, and subsequent appeals are managed in line with Police Regulations, Police Staff discipline and Statutory Guidance.  

 The role ensures mitigation of breach of process and other civil litigation claims. This role also plays a key part in ensuring that the Force maintains its integrity and high standards of professionalism and contributes to maintaining a professional workforce.

What you'll be doing

  • The PSD Panels Officer is accountable and responsible for the effective day to day preparation of the complex bundles for formal internal and external hearings.  The PSD Panels Advisor will also provide a critical analytical role ensuring equality, fairness and impartiality to all parties involved.  
  • The role ensures that all misconduct procedures, processes and subsequent appeals are managed in line with Police Regulations, Police Staff discipline and Statutory Guidance.  
  • Key point of liaison for subject officers, victims, witnesses, support associations
  • Record keeping for case management, audit, and performance reporting

What you'll bring to the team

  •  Experience in legal file handling including preparing reports and presenting information in a clear manner, in a variety of formats, including photocopying, paginating, and ensuring work is clearly presented and referenced. Compiling legal bundles of documents for misconduct meetings and hearings. 
  • Experience of managing significant risk within previous roles ideally within Legal Services fields. 
  • Liaison with Home Office Police Force Professional Standards Departments, lawyers, legally qualified chairs, barristers, and other specialist departments. Experience in managing and coordinating different stakeholders, systems/processes, and performance.  
  • Previous relevant experience of managing multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment and of managing significant risk.  
  • Undertaking desktop research into topic specific information and includes managing costs and expenses relating to the misconduct meeting and hearing processes. Analysing/interpreting data and performance reporting.

Additional Information: Although there is a blended approach to this role, there is a requirement to be in the office for all misconduct hearings and meetings.
