The Opportunity:

British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity to join the Communications and Engagement department. As a Communications Officer with BTP, you’ll play a vital role in supporting how BTP communicates with its people, partners and the public.
This is a hands‑on, varied role that will give you exposure to a range of communications disciplines, including internal communications, social media, campaigns, media relations and stakeholder engagement. You’ll help keep the department running smoothly by managing day‑to‑day communications activity, coordinating processes, and providing essential administrative and logistical support. Your work will directly contribute to the delivery of BTP’s strategic objectives, ensuring communications are well‑planned, timely and effective.

What you'll be doing:
- Provide support across the communications and engagement department, including internal communications, social media, media relations, campaigns, awards, and stakeholder communications. This could include creating content, updating channels, maintaining dashboards and other administrative support.
- Support the communications planning lead by maintaining the department communications planning grid, updating policies, procedures and processes, tracking KPIs, supporting communications plans or contributing to the delivery of publications. Ensuring that work is completed on time.
- Responsibility for system administration of the department’s communications and collaboration tools by troubleshooting and managing queries. Including systems like SharePoint, MS Planner, Power Automate and media and social media tracking software.
- Logistical support including monitoring mailboxes, processing finance requests, and supporting the set-up of online internal events.
What you'll bring to the team:
- Proven experience in providing administrative or business support services with strong organisational skills and an exceptional eye for detail.
- Experience in supporting teams contributing to operational efficiency, effective collaboration, and achievement of goals.
- Demonstratable ability to prioritise multiple tasks and take responsibility for completing work accurately and on time.
- Experience of Microsoft 365 software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms and Teams.
- Understanding of the role Internal and External Communications play in fostering engagement and action from audiences.
- Experience of writing, creating and editing content for different channels, including intranet/online pages, newsletters and planning documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail and good grammatical knowledge, as well as the ability to write in a variety of styles and to edit the contribution of others.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across an organisation.
- Ability to be discrete with sensitive information when developing communications.
- Knowledge of analysing data and feedback to inform an appropriate response.
- Knowledge of GDPR and the importance of data protection.
