The Opportunity:
British Transport Police have an opportunity for a Contract Advisor to join our Commercial Department.
As a Contract Advisor with BTP, you will support the Intelligent Client team by providing contract performance analysis, financial compliance, and legal assurance across key outsourced areas including fleet, uniform, facilities, and utilities. This role involves managing discreet projects, preparing contract documentation, analysing data, and working closely with Contract Managers to ensure compliance and best practice, directly contributing to the effective delivery of policing services.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead on specific projects within the team’s remit, such as fleet replacement exercises and changes to uniform provision.
- Provide advice and guidance to Contract Managers and Station Support Officers on best practice in contract management.
- Maintain and update contractual documentation, ensuring management decisions are based on accurate and current information.
- Draft legal contract change notes and support the resolution of disputes or performance issues with key suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance against KPIs, producing detailed reports and dashboards to highlight trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct supplier financial stability checks and prepare complex multi-site, high-value invoices for payment in line with Force policy.
- Undertake assurance visits across BTP facilities and liaise with stakeholders to escalate and resolve contractual issues promptly.
- Support strategic review meetings and contribute to the central supplier performance dashboard for senior management.
What you'll bring to the team:
Qualifications
- Qualified to A-Level standard.
- Commitment to undertake studies and exams to achieve a contract management qualification.
Experience:
- Working in a Procurement or Commercial function.
- Delivering discreet projects and implementing process improvements.
- Applying category management principles within public sector services.
- Handling contract administration, including legal documentation and change notices.
- Working with budget holders and finance systems.
Knowledge:
- Procurement and contract law, with the ability to interpret complex terms.
- Programme management methodology, risk management, and budget monitoring.
- Commercial processes, governance, and compliance requirements.
Skills:
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Ability to present complex data clearly and concisely.
