Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.
The Opportunity:
British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting an Estates Auditing Manager to lead a robust audit programme across our estate. In this role, you will assess end‑to‑end compliance across workplace design, space planning, building management, CAD/data accuracy and policy adoption, providing clear findings and corrective actions.
Your insight will strengthen safety, inclusivity, value for money and audit readiness, while ensuring alignment with BTP governance and public‑sector standards. This role plays a key part in supporting the delivery of modern, compliant and cost‑effective workplaces that meet policing needs and contribute to the Estates Improvement Programme.
What you'll be doing:
- Designing and delivering a comprehensive estates audit framework, including methodology, scope, sampling and reporting.
- Reviewing compliance with Estates policies and standards, ensuring workplace design, space planning and processes match approved requirements.
- Auditing CAD and CAFM data for accuracy, version control and completeness, ensuring MI is drawn from reliable, controlled datasets.
- Assessing alignment with H&S, fire safety and accessibility obligations, ensuring audit‑ready evidence and supporting Compliance/Assurance colleagues.
- Validating key performance data such as occupancy, utilisation and cost metrics, identifying efficiency and cost‑avoidance opportunities.
- Carrying out targeted site and divisional audits with clear findings, risk ratings and agreed actions.
- Tracking corrective actions, escalating high‑risk issues through estates governance.
- Driving continuous improvement by identifying systemic issues and feeding learning into policies, standards and processes.
- Producing evidence‑based audit reports for project boards, committees and senior stakeholders.
What you'll bring to the team:
- A Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience in audit, governance, workplace/facilities management, architecture, design or information systems.
- Experience delivering operational audits in complex, multi‑site or regulated environments, with the ability to convert findings into clear corrective actions.
- Strong experience auditing CAD/data standards, document control processes, MI/KPI accuracy and workplace procedures.
- Confidence working with governance and assurance stakeholders, producing concise, actionable audit reports.
- Skilled in audit planning, sampling, evidence testing and root‑cause analysis, with strong risk and issue‑management capability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to influence stakeholders and secure action.
- Competence with MI and data‑visualisation tools (Power BI, Excel Power Query/Pivot) and working knowledge of AutoCAD/CAFM for audit purposes.
- Strong problem‑solving, lateral thinking, and decision‑making skills with high attention to detail.
- Knowledge of information‑governance principles and secure handling of estates data.
- Understanding of workplace regulations and standards, including H&S, fire safety and accessibility.
