Salary: £35,754,47 plus £4,613.61 London allowance per annum with yearly increments based on performance.

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: 200 Buckingham Palace Road, London

Type of Working Arrangement: Office Based

Hours: This is full-time role (37 hours per week)

The Opportunity: 

British Transport Police (BTP) have an opportunity for a Building Services Manager to join the Estates department. This is a key role supporting the operational effectiveness of the Force by ensuring that headquarters buildings and services are managed to a high standard.

As a Building Services Manager, you will be responsible for the operational management and delivery of an efficient, effective, and cost‑effective Estates Services function, providing a customer‑focused service across London‑based Force Headquarters premises. You will oversee building services and facilities operations, ensuring assets are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose, while delivering value for money.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers, you will play an important role in maintaining a professional working environment that supports the day‑to‑day needs of the organisation and its people.

 

What you'll be doing:  

  • Deliver the operational management of Facilities Services across all London‑based A Division and Force Headquarters (FHQ) locations, ensuring services are efficient, effective, customer‑focused, and delivered in line with agreed policies and service level agreements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for facilities matters, providing standardised support to premises and departments, conducting regular site visits and audits, ensuring consistent service delivery, and responding effectively to emergencies across all locations.
  • Manage and coordinate hard and soft FM contracts and maintenance activities, working with approved contractors and suppliers to ensure value for money, compliance with BTP standards, health and safety legislation, fire risk assessments, and that all works are properly authorised and delivered to specification.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational assurance, supporting asset management, space planning, office moves, KPI performance monitoring, and the development of standardised systems, procedures, and a facilities knowledge base to meet Force and departmental objectives.

What you'll bring to the team: 

Qualifications / Training

  • Qualification in Facilities Management or proven experience in a facilities, building management, or workplace coordination role.   
  • Health and Safety qualifications or relevant experience with safety legislation / risk assessments, fire safety.

Experience

  • Practical experience of Facilities Management in an operational environment
  • Experience of managing and prioritising workload in a busy setting
  • Experience of problem‑solving and coordinating facilities‑related activities

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders and suppliers
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and remain customer‑focused

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of facilities‑related issues, including maintenance and health & safety
