The Opportunity:
British Transport Police have an opportunity for a Project Manager to join the Projects Department. As a Project Manager with BTP, you will lead the successful planning, delivery and governance of projects that contribute to organisational priorities within the Force transformation portfolio.
The postholder will manage the full project lifecycle - defining scope, developing business cases, coordinating resources, controlling budgets, assessing risks and ensuring delivery to agreed time, cost and benefit outcomes. The role will ensure that change initiatives are well-structured, stakeholder needs are understood, and the project delivers measurable benefits.
Working collaboratively across departments, the postholder will champion best-practice project management and support continuous improvement across the portfolio.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead end‑to‑end delivery of complex projects, ensuring effective planning, governance and delivery to agreed scope, time and budget
- Develop and maintain key project artefacts, including project plans, business cases, RAID logs, highlight reports and benefits tracking
- Manage stakeholders at all levels, facilitating effective decision‑making through Project Boards and governance forums
- Monitor project performance, proactively managing risks, issues and dependencies to ensure successful outcomes
What you'll bring to the team:
- A professional project management qualification (e.g. APM PMQ or PRINCE2), or a willingness to work towards one
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects end‑to‑end within a structured project or governance environment
- Strong knowledge and practical application of project management disciplines, including planning, financial management, risk and benefits management
- Experience developing business cases and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders or governance boards
- Proven ability to manage project budgets, providing accurate forecasting and financial control
- Experience coordinating and working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams and third‑party suppliers
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, communicate clearly and build effective working relationships at all levels

This role sits within the People & Culture programme, supporting projects that enable organisational change and workforce transformation. While not essential, experience of delivering projects within HR, Learning & Development, or wider People‑focused transformation programmes would be beneficial.
