Economics Internship - 3 Months

Job Introduction

Salary: £28,486.92 plus London Allowance £4,613.61 (full-time equivalent), pro-rated for a 3-month period

Internship Duration: 3 months, full-time

Location: Force Headquarters, London 

Type of Working Arrangement: Hybrid role with 8-hour working days (including a 36-minute lunch), flexible start between 8:00–9:00am and finish between 4:00–5:00pm. You’ll work 2 days per week in the office (typically Monday and Tuesday, with flexibility) and the remaining days from home, with office days coordinated for collaboration.

Hours: 37 hours per week

The Opportunity:

We are delighted to offer an exciting internship opportunity for a motivated student with a strong interest in economics, data analysis, and public sector impact. This internship provides hands-on experience working on real-world economic challenges, focusing on analysing the benefits of policing activity to businesses. The successful candidate will gain practical exposure to:

  • Data analysis and modelling
  • Applying economic and value-for-money principles
  • Treasury Green Book methodology (where applicable)
  • Understanding the economics of crime and its wider impacts

This is a unique opportunity to build practical skills while contributing to meaningful work that supports evidence-based decision-making.

 

About you:

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Studying or has recently completed a degree in Economics or a related discipline (e.g. Economics with Maths, Finance, or similar)
  • Open-minded to candidates with other relevant degrees (e.g. Business), subject to suitability
  • Comfortable working with Excel
  • Possessing a logical and analytical mindset
  • A strong problem solver with attention to detail
  • Interested in applying economic theory to real-world challenges
