Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.

The Opportunity:

British Transport Police have an opportunity for a Police National Computer (PNC) & Records Officer to join the Police National Computer Bureau Department. As a PNC & Records Officer with BTP, you will provide a vital service supporting frontline policing by maintaining the accuracy, integrity and effectiveness of the Police National Computer (PNC), and its successor the Law Enforcement Database System (LEDS), mission-critical systems used across UK law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.

You will play a key role in updating, reviewing and managing PNC records in line with national policy and legislation, ensuring that critical information is available to support investigations, identify offenders and recover property.

In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for the administration and weeding of warrants, as well as the maintenance, interrogation and analysis of PNC data to the highest standards. You will also manage Arrest Summons (AS) numbers, ensuring systems are updated using information from the Crown Prosecution Service and courts, while working within strict timescales to meet compliance requirements including VCOP, MOPI, DPA and FOI. Additionally, you will oversee the preparation and retrieval of records for archiving, contributing to efficient information management and supporting the wider operational needs of the force.

What you'll be doing:

  • Reviewing and interrogating court systems in order to ensure PNC is updated with accurate information regarding Criminal Justice outcomes in a timely manner, in compliance with local and national data management policies.
  • Liaising and negotiating with Home Office police forces and other external partners so that the PNC accurately reflects BTP’s ownership of relevant crime data.
  • Accurate maintenance and administration of Fail to Appear (FTA) at court warrants and Wanted for Questioning/Charging as well as ensuring PNC is updated expeditiously as per target deadlines.
  • Responding to ad-hoc queries and non-urgent requests to update PNC with operationally significant information, such as Warning Signals, OI reports, Information Markers, etc, in order to enhance officer safety and awareness.

What you'll bring to the team:

  • Experience of working in an administrative environment within a police or partner agency.
  • Experience of evaluating and managing risk.
  • Able to perform data input with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • An understanding of the Criminal Justice System and its processes.
  • Trained in: PNC Enquiry and PNC Update (Offence Processing), last usage of the system within the last year

What we offer:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
  • Family-friendly policies, including up to 26 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.
  • Bespoke benefits platform and Blue Light Card access.
  • Salary sacrifice options for cycles, home technology, gym membership, and electric vehicles.
  • Interest-free annual rail season ticket loan after 6 months.
  • Access to the Transport Benevolent Fund for health, welfare, and financial support.
  • Development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships.
  • Excellent Pension scheme:  We offer the BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme, administered by Royal London. This group personal pension plan is available to all police staff and is a defined contribution scheme. It provides the flexibility to vary your pension contributions from 4.4% to 12% of your salary.
