Our values are simply: We Care, We Do the Right Thing, We Strive to Be Better Every Day, We Are One BTP, and We Are Proud to Protect. Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.
The Opportunity:
British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting a Project Manager on a 23‑month fixed‑term contract to join the Estates department and support the delivery of key projects within our A Force on the Move transformation programme.
In this role, you will help modernise and improve the efficiency of the Force by leading project planning, delivery and reporting across a range of high‑impact change initiatives.
You’ll develop project plans and roadmaps, manage project teams, secure approvals and funding, and keep projects on track for time, cost and benefits. Working within BTP’s ENTERPRISE change framework, you’ll ensure projects align with programme objectives and communicate progress clearly to diverse stakeholders.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape meaningful organisational change and support BTP’s future‑focused transformation.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading the delivery of change projects within the A Force on the Move portfolio, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope and budget.
- Providing clear direction to project teams and working with Business Change to maximise benefits and return on investment.
- Managing the full project lifecycle—from mobilisation and business case development to delivery, handover and post‑implementation review.
- Preparing investment bids, tracking progress, managing risks and producing accurate reporting for stakeholders.
- Coordinating project dependencies across the wider portfolio and building strong relationships with stakeholders to support effective delivery.
- Leading the transition of project outputs into BAU and supporting lessons‑learned activities.
What you'll bring to the team:
- A relevant degree (architecture, surveying, engineering facilities management, estates, construction, etc) or equivalent experience, plus an APM qualification or similar project management accreditation.
- Proven experience delivering projects—ideally complex ones—within a structured methodology.
- Strong analytical skills and experience preparing reports, business cases and recommendations.
- Confident communication, influencing and negotiation skills with senior stakeholders.
- Excellent organisation, time management and the ability to lead and motivate project teams.
- Ability to apply experience and knowledge of project management disciplines to clearly define problems and resolve them.
- A proactive, resilient approach with the ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
- Strong working knowledge of core project management disciplines, including financials, risk, benefits and change.
Additional Information:
BTP is a national Force and on occasions the role may require travel to meet with stakeholders, employers, management, and suppliers as needed, although every attempt is made to keep this to a minimum.
