Salary: £55,310.87 plus £4,613.61 London allowance per annum

Contract Type: Permanent, Full time

Location: 200 Buckingham Palace Road, London 

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available

Hours: This is full-time role (37 hours per week)

The Opportunity: 

British Transport Police have an opportunity for an Estates Health & Safety & CDM Advisor to join the Estates Department.  

As an Estates Health & Safety & CDM Advisor with BTP, you will act as the subject matter expert for all Estates‑related health and safety matters, including compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. You will ensure that all Estates works, projects, and operations meet statutory obligations, internal governance standards, and recognised industry best practice. Helping to protect people, property, and organisational reputation.

You will also play a key role in providing proactive advice and assurance throughout the planning, design, and delivery stages of Estates projects. In this role, you will embed safe systems of work, support legal compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement in safety performance across the organisation.

 

What you'll be doing:  

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure Estates projects comply with H&S legislation and CDM regulations.
  • Maintain policies, conduct site audits, and report on compliance.

CDM Competent Person

  • Provide expert CDM advice and review key project documentation.
  • Work with designers and contractors to support safe delivery.

Risk Management

  • Identify and manage Estates‑related risks, maintaining risk registers.
  • Carry out audits on high‑risk sites and escalate issues when needed.

Project Support

  • Provide H&S input into project briefs, tenders, and governance meetings.

Training & Awareness

  • Deliver H&S/CDM training and promote a strong safety culture.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Advise senior stakeholders and liaise with internal teams and external bodies.


What you'll bring to the team: 

  • NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) and IOSH membership (CertIOSH or above). 
  • Proven competency in CDM 2015, with experience in formal CDM roles (e.g., Principal Designer). 
  • Strong experience advising on H&S and CDM compliance across multi‑site Estates and high‑value construction projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex audits, manage contractor performance, and assess high‑risk construction activities
  • Expert knowledge of UK H&S legislation, CDM 2015, Building Regulations, and relevant industry standards. 
  • Excellent ability to interpret complex legislation, analyse risk, and solve problems. 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, working with internal and external partners. 
  • Solid understanding of construction risk management and safe design principles.

Additional Information: 

BTP is a national Force and the role will require travel as needed.
