Salary: £61,337.60 per annum, plus a London Allowance of £4,613.61

Contract Type: Fixed Term - 23 months

Location: FHQ, 200 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9TJ

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available

Hours: This is a full-time role (37 hours per week)

The Opportunity:

British Transport Police (BTP) have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Advisor/Project Manager to join our Estates Department.

As a Technical Advisor/Project Manager with BTP, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality estates projects that support our operational and strategic objectives. You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and managing a range of Estates Capital and Revenue projects through the full project lifecycle. These projects can vary from replacing essential infrastructure, such as boilers, to major refurbishments or relocations to new premises.

What you'll be doing:  

  • Champion and implement estate transformation projects aligned with BTP’s strategic plan.
  • Review estate condition surveys, analyse findings, and recommend scope and funding.
  • Develop and own business cases, leading them through governance and all RIBA stages.
  • Manage programmes of work, briefs for consultants/contractors, and oversee delivery.
  • Drive Agile and smarter working practices across the estate.
  • Engage stakeholders, manage risks, monitor costs, and ensure compliance with regulations and health & safety standards.

What you'll bring to the team:

Qualifications

  • Degree-level education with extensive estates experience in public sector or similar.
  • Will be either a fully qualified Architect or Surveyor with current membership to the appropriate professional body.  (RIBA, RICS and /or CIOB).
  • Programme/Project Management qualification (MSP, PRINCE2 or equivalent).

Experience

  • Proven leadership of large, complex estates projects.
  • End-to-end project and change management across all lifecycle stages.
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction, compliance, and building regulations.
  • Experience managing budgets, risks, and multiple programmes simultaneously.
  • Collaboration with commercial/legal teams on contracts and suppliers.

Technical & Knowledge

  • Ability to create briefs, manage tenders, and oversee delivery.
  • Knowledge of estates, property, and facilities management in the public sector.
  • Familiarity with construction best practice and emerging technologies.
  • Computer literate with project management tools.

Essential Skills

  • Deliver complex estates programmes using recognised methods and processes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams across locations.
  • Analytical decision-making with budgetary and resource control.

BTP is a National Force and this role will require travel across the country.
